![]() Played on Xbox Series S, Review copy provided by Capcom Asia. The progression of the adventure is quite similar to the original, although it has a few surprises in store to avoid being too predictable. Resident Evil 4 Remake is a testament to how Capcom rolls in the modern era, iterating the games into a version of themselves that not only shines on its own but also pays tribute to its origins by being the example of how an action horror title should be done.Ī contender for Game Of The Year back in 2005 and now, in 2023. But unlike some developers (looking at you Konami), the older versions are still available to purchase so which side you pick is yours to decide, dear readers. And while the original is still on the market, I do feel like this is the superior way to play the fourth (or fifth if you count Code Veronica) game.Īnd to answer the recent question of whether this version or the old PS2 era version is the one you should pick, it is up to your own preference if you want to play either the original or this version but I do learn more towards this version due to how it plays and feels. It is refreshing to return back to a remote village in Spain with a new coat of paint and better movement that makes the playthrough much more engaging and tough to put down. A game that can be played over and over, all while having fun seeing Leon trying to make sense of his journey to save Ashley (and maybe get Ada as well). And each time you beat it, you’ll get something like a new outfit for both Leon and Ashley or weapons like the Tommy gun and even unlimited ammo for your weapons.Īnd whilst the likes of the Mercenaries mode and even the Ada-centered DLC isn’t part of the package yet, I can imagine that this game can be as replayable as their predecessor. Resident Evil 4 Remake is not that long of a game, where if you know the way and breeze through all of the bosses and areas, you can get around the game within the 10-hour mark (along with doing the side quests as well). Though there is durability on some items like the knife, it’s a good balance to the game that just nails the combat feel. Your weapons and item placements are exactly where you might remember them (like the shotgun Ada left for you back in Chapter 1 is still there), and even the shooting range is now Pirate theme but still, it is so much fun to play whilst getting charms that can boost your powers via certain items. This also sees the introduction of the Parry system which when timed right, you can see Leon parry a chainsaw attack with his knife and that’s hecking cool.īesides these two, most of the game is still the same, and that’s fine with me. This change also means that some elements of the game have been changed, like the removal of the QTEs sections that, whilst novel during its time back on the Gamecube, feels so out of place during this era of video games. A major welcome change to the stop/shoot nature of the originals. One of the other big major improvements that RE4R made is the combat system, which blends together what made the previous two of the remake series combat great to play and sprinkle in the action movie style moves like the Roundhouse kick, which was iconic back in the original, and you have yourself a very mobile Leon Kennedy with the ability to aim and move during encounters. Personally, I have no issues with the likes of Leon, Ada, and Ashley sounding different than before but if you don’t like the new cast, then better keep it to yourselves than do unproductive stuff. ![]() It pairs fairly well with the sound design that sounds much meatier when doing a roundhouse kick to an enemy’s face, coupled with how visceral the guns and explosives now sound when compared to not only the original but also the 3rd Remake back in 2020, it feels like an audio treat using a good pair of headphones or TV sound bar.īut, one of the current hot topic (at the time of writing anyway) is the voice acting that some weird fans are disliking, to the point of review bombing the Metacritic score. And whilst there has been some complaint that item boxes are now labeled with yellow markings due to how realistic everything looks, it doesn’t feel out of place really in the final product. Like its previous remake predecessors, the graphics fidelity of this remake is top-notch, with the improvements from the RE Engine making the graphics fidelity much more noticeable in its improvements in the village areas and even Castle grounds later on. And it’s nice to see it get some much improvement from the future titles flowing within a game that’s about saving the president’s daughter. ![]() Resident Evil 4 Remake does justice for what is essentially a genre-defining moment in their history. ![]() But good thing the masses let Capcom does its thing, and what we have gotten is a game far exceeding anyone’s expectations. This was on many minds when this remake was announced a few years back.
