![]() Garrison voice*), what would he/she be like if you put them in the morphigenic engine." I'll go ahead and make one up right now: I'm constantly meeting and hearing about genuinely crazy people in my life and ask myself "Geez (in Mr. It may seem gratuitous at times but not only is that the outlast niche, but we all deal with trauma and the main antagonists in outlast look like what happens when that trauma wins and takes over. I do want to know why the main baddies (gooseberry, Coyle, Whitehorn, (hoping for even more)) are broken beyond repair but I like that they're broken beyond prepare. That over the top shit is fun-I love going wtf every time Red Barrels manages to raise the bar on the various, twisted, in-your-face insanity. ![]() It's a video game not a Jordan Peele movie, I want to be scared not feel like I have to think about major themes like every other piece of horror media tries today.Īll those things are things I like about the game and the franchise in general. ![]() I think if they had more backstory, interesting implications as to why they are the way they are, they would be even stronger characters. In my opinion, one of the best things about Outlast, if not the best thing is the characterization, which is very strong in Outlast and Whistleblower and (at least in my opinion) not nearly as strong in Outlast 2 - but I can see a lot of potential in the characters in Trials, and I know that people are already quite fond of Gooseberry and Coyle. However I do agree that the characters could certainly use more backstory and explanation on how they became/were turned into what they are and why they're like that. Murkoff is intentionally trying to put the players through as much physical and mental torment as possible in Trials. The characters in the Outlast games did horrific things of their own volition, of course, but they weren't all out for blood and they weren't all organized. Also, like someone else said, the players in Trials are lab rats and are being experimented on, while the characters in the main Outlast games were just outsiders who had gotten trapped in the asylum or in Temple Gate and had to escape. Well, the Outlast Trials is an experimental spin-off, it's intentionally being made different from the main Outlast games, so there's a good chance the mood, gameplay, characters are all going to be much different (the gameplay in Trials is already clearly much different than the gameplay in the main Outlast games). Also, when you say the shock is unrealistic it is way more realistic than the first games as the main characters had multiple potential for escape but didn't but in outlast trials you are taken to a facility scared hopeless so the shock is very realistic and helps with immersion, I recommend watching the red barrel's videos on making the outlast trials then maybe you would understand more of the story I respectfully disagree first of all we don't have the full story of the characters so it may have more explanation I think the opening is self-explanatory you are a homeless person you can't have a fully customizable character have backstory it takes away from the immersion Murkoff kidnaps you and takes you to the Sinyala facility I feel like the reason it feels so fast is done on purpose because in real life traumatic events always happen to fast and Gooseberry does have a really sad backstory if you watched the red barrels video on her but we do not have much when it comes to Coyle for now I also think the less we know about the characters makes it more mysterious and realistic as if you were actually put into this situation you probably wouldn't even know mother gooseberry's name.
